Policy Specialist, Data for Development

Serge Kapto has just been appointed to the position of Policy Specialist on Data for Development in the Post-2015 Team, Strategic Policy Unit, Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, UNDP. For the past couple of years, Serge Kapto has had the dual roles of Governance focal point in the UNDP Team on Post-2015 and Policy Specialist for E-governance and Access to Information in the Democratic Governance Group at UNDP's headquarters in New York. In the Post-2015 team, Serge contributed to the organization of the Global Thematic Consultation on Governance and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and more recently to the Post-2015 Dialogue on Strengthening Capacities and Building Effective Institutions. Serge coordinates the Initiative to Pilot Illustrative Sustainable Development Goals at the national level. Serge started his career with the Sustainable Development Networking Programme, a UNDP pioneering initiative that played a major role in introducing Internet to many developing countries. Serge then went on to UNDESA where he remained involved in ICT for Development issues at the United Nations ICT Task Force and the Global Alliance for ICT and Development. Prior to returning to UNDP, Serge worked on ICT for Development and e-governance at the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament in Rome. ​
